Welcome to DGA Flaminio!

21 Mar

DGA is so pleased to welcome Flaminio to the coaching team. He is an extremely talented coach, and we are very excited to have him join us here in Dunedin.

"I am Flaminio Oliveira, a Brazilian from Natal, a small city that sits just by the Atlantic Ocean with beaches similar to Saint Clair Beach and other places around Dunedin. Maybe, because of that I feel more comfortable living here than in other places.

Gymnastics is one of my passions and I’ve been involved in it for many years. When I was a child I really wanted to have a go and try all the flips and skills that I could see the gymnasts doing. So, whenever I had the opportunity of getting involved with the sport I didn’t hesitate. By the time there was a gymnastics gym in my city,  I was 17, a bit too late to get involved in competitions as a gymnast so I became a gymnastics’ coach instead.

I have extensive experience and qualifications that allow me to work with WAG, MAG and I also enjoy working with Recreational and Play Gym.

Counting on my dad and many others, I had my own gymnasium named “Olimpia Academia de Ginastica” for 11 years, making gymnastics more popular.

In 2005 we decided to come to New Zealand, and we never left. We have only one daughter who used to be a gymnast and she lives in Queenstown. After eighteen years living in Auckland we decided to come to the South Island.

I am very happy to be part of the DGA team and I hope to be able to contribute to the club's development and success."
